D.H. Scrubby Tech Tip: Will the Internet stop working July 9?

Glora's husband fancies himself a writer and a technology enthusiast (code for "likes expensive toys"). As a guest writer for Glora's Crafts, he writes articles which might be interesting to the crafting and blogging community.

You may have heard a rumor going around that FBI is going to shut down the Internet on July 9.

While that is probably not true for most people, the Internet may go dark for some people because the FBI will turn off a certain server on that date.

Maybe I better explain from the beginning.

In 2007, a sophisticated virus called DNSChanger was released and quickly infected millions of computers. The malware would reroute your requests to view a webpage to hacker-created websites, where cyber-criminals made at least $14 million in showing online advertisements. (Who says advertizing doesn't pay?) DNSChanger also prevents infected computers from updating or using anti-virus software, leaving them vulnerable to even more malicious software.

Forward to November 2011: The FBI arrested six Estonian nationals (yes, I had to look up Estonia too) and seized the servers where infected users were being redirected. Because of the number of users who were unknowingly being directed through these servers, a court order instructed the FBI put up surrogate servers in place of the malicious ones so as not to disrupt the Internet service for millions.

That court order runs out on July 9. When the servers come down, infected computers will no longer find the Internet.

So, how can you know if you are infected with DNSChanger?

Visit this FBI website: https://forms.fbi.gov/check-to-see-if-your-computer-is-using-rogue-DNS. Click one of the links at the bottom of the page (appropriate to the language you speak). You'll know instantly.

If you are infected, how can you fix it?

Unfortunately, the program is a rootkit type of virus, which means it buries itself deep into the system, requiring intensive work to get rid of it. The safest course is to back up your important data, reformat your hard drive(s), and reinstall your operating system (easier said than done).

If you want to attempt removal on your own, several antivirus companies have released free removal utilities. One example includes Kapersky Labs free rootkit removal tool.

Good luck, and may the Internet stay on for you!

Comments are always welcome - however, please understand that I cannot provide technical support for your situation. If you run into trouble, seek out professional assistance (that is, invite the neighborhood nerd over and offer him a doughnut).

MCT Scrappy Monday Layout

Hello friends. It is time for another Scrappy Monday at My Creative Time. We were asked to make a layout of any size and include ONE picture (I totally messed up and left a spot for two pictures and didn't realize I had messed up until I was finished and didn't have time to make something else). We were also asked to include buttons.

The basic idea for this layout came about when Emma's What's Growing On stamp set came out. I couldn't help but think of how much a pregnant woman grows (especially in the 3rd Trimester).

Here is a little closer look at this cute 3rd Trimester image that comes from the 9 Months Cricut Lite cartridge. I had a super sweet bloggy friend give it to me as a gift and I'm SO in love with it! THANK YOU!

The face on the girl is made using the Funshine Faces Side View stamp set by Peachy Keen Stamps. I also added a button and some hemp from Liz's Paper Loft Boutique.

Here is a closer looks at the removable journaling tag:

This tag slides in and out. That way I can put the details of how much growth was happening without EVERYONE who looks at the scrapbook seeing the details. For the tag I used Emma's XL Label Die, for the stitching her XL Label Border stamps, and for the sentiment What's Growing On?

And last of all here is a close up of the scale:

This scale is also a cut from the 9 Months Cricut Lite cartridge. The sweet little baby feet and the 'weight' sentiment come from My Creative Time's All Star Baby stamp set.

Make sure to stop by Emma's blog and see what she and the other DT members did using ONLY ONE picture and buttons. Have a great Memorial Day. Hugs- Glora

Wobble Wednesday - SUMMER

Hi, I hope you are all having a great day. It is time for another Wobble Wednesday Challenge and it is my turn to choose the theme. I went with SUMMER. School is almost out and the sun has been shining nice and bright so I thought this would be a perfect theme.

If you would like to learn more about the challenge and join in the fun click HERE.

For my project I made a fun and simple tag.

The beautiful tag is a new die by My Creative Time called Tag Dies. The sentiments are both by My Creative Time. They are called Have Fun in the Sun and This and That! The sweet little sunshine stamp is by Peachy Keen Stamps (You Are My Sunshine), you can also purchase some Action Wobbles there and at the Queen's Royal Shoppe. And the lovely seam binding ribbon and hemp are from Liz's Paper Loft Boutique.

Have FUN in the SUN everyone! Hugs- Glora

I LOVE Basketball

Today I have a basketball card to share with you. I shared this on Everyday Cricut a while back but have not shared it here. This is a double sided tri-fold card that I designed in my Gypsy. You definitely don't have to do these double sided but I thought it made the card extra fun.

For this card I used the Sports Mania Cricut cartridge and the Everyday Paper Doll Cricut cartridge. Here is what the card looks like all closed up:

The small basketball and #1 player are both from stamp sets by My Creative Time. The #1 is from her Sports Sentiments stamp set and the basketball is from her Slam Dunk stamp set. The face on the paperdoll is a stamp by Peachy Keen Stamps called Simple Simons.

When you open the top flap (which is the basketball player) this is what you see:

The basketball and the clipboard are both from the Sports Mania cartridge and the basketball player and his accessories are from the Everyday Paper Doll cartridge.

Then when you open the second flap, which is the basketball, this is what you will see:

The slam dunk sentiment and smaller basketball are from the Slam Dunk stamp set and the I {heart} basketball and #1 stamps come from the Sports Sentiments stamp set by My Creative Time and this face is also a Simple Simon face stamp by Peachy Keen Stamps.

I have made one other double sided tri-fold card in the past and if you are interested in taking a look at it I will leave you a link below:

MCT May Release Day #4

Hi and welcome to day four of projects from Emma's newest stamp and die release over at My Creative Time. ALL of these stamps and dies are already available for order.

Today we are all using Celebrate Good Times. This is the ultimate adorable birthday stamp and die set. I LOVE it SO much. I know I will be using it over and over again!

I thought this set worked perfectly for my nephew's birthday card. I stamped each word of Make a Wish separately to make little sentiment banners down the side. I love how it turned out and will probably be trying that again. I cut out one of the awesome Tag Dies from this release and then embossed the tag with the Mickey Celebrates Cuttlebug embossing folder. I used to white chalk ink to make the embossing pop. I added a Mickey Icon eyelet that I got from Disneyland to the top of the tag and some faux stitching around the edges and I was done. This actually turned out to be a super quick and simple card, but my "masculine/boy" cards tend to be a little more simple.

This wouldn't be a party without GIVEAWAYS!

MCT May Release Day #3

Hi and welcome to day three of projects from Emma's newest - special birthday - release over at My Creative Time. ALL of these stamps and dies are already available for order.

Today we are all using Fun Pockets. This is just a fun all around stamp set. It has sentiments from birthday to everyday. Plus there is a cute girly pocket die and a regular pocket die.

I used some pretty Echo Parks paper along with Emma's Fun Pockets stamp set and her Tag Dies. The awesome ribbon and hemp can all be found at Liz's brand new Boutique. Isn't it pretty. I love how well these colors went with this paper pad. And last but not least is the cute little PKS You Are My Sunshine. I used this sunshine instead of the one that comes with the Fun Pockets stamp set because I wanted to be able to remove the sunshine from the pocket (picture below).

This wouldn't be a party without GIVEAWAYS!

MCT May Release Project Day 1

Hello and welcome to a week of creative inspiration using Emma's newest - special birthday - release over at My Creative Time. ALL of these stamps and dies are already available for pre-order and will be shipping out soon.

Today I made a set of 4, 4"x4" cards. These are a nice size for a little note.

I used all 3 different mustaches from the What's Growing On? stamp and die set. Aren't they a fun variety and each one has Emma's beautiful stitching around it.

I inked the edges of the mustaches and the layers of the card. I also added some faux stitching around the patterned paper. The pretty polka dot paper is by PaperTrey Ink called Bitty Dots.

My Creative Time 3D Wednesday - BIRTHDAY

Hello. It is time for another My Creative Time 3D Wednesday and today all of our projects are going to have a birthday theme to them.

I thought I would throw together a couple of simple but nice birthday favors/gifts. Emma's products make this SO easy to do. For my first project I made a little hand sanitizer holder.

All I did was use the My Creative Time Stitched Lollipop Holder, The Scallop and Stitched Circle Dies, I used the All Around Birthday Time stamp set for the sentiment and Anyday Bingo and Crossword for the cute little cupcake. Then I accented with some Stickles and twine and voila I was done. Super easy.

My next project is a little treat box.

For this one I used the Bubblegum Treat Box Die, The Stitched Circle Die and the All Around Birthday Time stamp set. I heat embossed the crown with silver embossing powder and added a few gems and a little bit of Stickles to it. I also used some pretty twine to tie the sides together. Again super easy but cute.

Make sure to stop by Emma's blog for TONS of birthday inspiration! And don't forget she will be starting her early release on her birthday May 10th! It is an awesome release and you won't want to miss it.

Have a terrific day! Hugs- Glora

Teacher Appreciation Day!

Today I have a couple of Teacher Appreciation Day ideas for you. I shared these ideas on Everyday Cricut several weeks ago but had not shared them on my blog yet. I hope this will give you some good ideas on how you can show appreciation to the teachers in your life. First I have a gift bag and tag:

All of the cuts for this come from the Cricut Lite Recess cartridge. The face is by Peachy Keen Stamps and all of the perfect sentiments are from My Creative Time's My Teacher Rocks stamps set. The patterned papers are from DCWV and Doodlebug Design.

I also decided to make a card that I could write a note in to include with this gift bag:

This is a standard A2 size card and once again the cuts are ALL from the Cricut Lite Recess cartridge. The cute little face is called Wide Eyed Kids and it is by Peachy Keen Stamps and the sentiments are from My Creative Time's My Teacher Rocks stamp set and the Just a Little Note to Say stamp set. I heat embossed the white sentiment on the black board and added some doodling with my Sakura Gellyroll Pen. The patterned paper on the background is from DCWV.

If you are looking for more Teacher Appreciation Day ideas, I have a few links to some of my favorite Teacher Appreciation Day projects:

My Favorite Stamp of the Month for May at My Creative Time

Hi, today I'm sharing a card I made for the My Favorite Stamp of the Month over at My Creative Time. This month there are two sets that will we are showcasing and they will be on sale this month as well. The sets are Just a Little Note to Say... and My Favorite Sayings. For my card I used My Favorite Sayings.

I love this sentiment! The cute little bee come from a stamp set by Peachy Keen Stamps called Faceless Bugs. The octagon shape is a Spellbinders die that I won a while back. I hadn't really used it yet because I don't have the little foam insert to do the embossing, but I figured I could still cut out the shape anyway. The ribbon is from Pebbles Inc. I also added a little bit of Crystal Stickles and some faux stitching with my black Sakura Gellyroll pen.

Here are some other projects I've made using these stamps sets in the the past (there is a link to the original post below each picture)...

Simply Crafts - Sunshine Cut

Hi friends. It is once again the first Wednesday of the month and time for another Simply Crafts Challenge. I chose the cut this month and I picked the sunshine from the Create-a-Critter cartridge. Sorry that I've picked from that cartridge a few times but it is one of my all time favorites. It just has SO much packed into it. If you would like to join in on our challenge this month go to the Simply Crafts Challenge blog HERE to learn more and to link your project up.

I made a shape card for my project.

I used my Gypsy to weld two sunshines together (5.5" each). And then I cut an extra base layer so that I could cover the fold. The pretty polka dot paper is by Doodlebug Design called Petite Prints. I had an awesome friend send it to me and I'm using every little scrap of it, I just LOVE it that much! I inked all the edges and did faux stitching as well. The BEAUTIFUL happy face is by Peachy Keen Stamps and is called 4" Happy Lashes - Open Mouth. I used some Glossy accents on part of her eyes and her nose. The sweet little 'SMILE' sentiment is from My Creative Time's Turn That Frown Upside Down stamp set. I chalked the cheeks in an orange/yellow shade. And added a sheer ribbon bow.  I definitely hope this card will make someone SMILE!

Pam has got a beautiful card using this cut and some BEAUTIFUL dots and stripes paper (I already sneaked a peek), so make sure you stop on over and see the details on how she made her card HERE. And if you want to join the Simply Crafts Challenge click HERE.

Have a sunshiny day! Hugs- Glora
